When The Waitress Grabbed This Man’s Shirt Everyone In The Restaurant Stopped To Watch

This story originally appeared at American Web Media.

Dwayne and his sister, Regina, were enjoying a late breakfast at their neighborhood IHOP when their conventional morning routine took an extraordinary turn.

As the waitress, Millie, approached to take their order, Dwayne, a 50-year-old Down Syndrome patient, couldn’t help but stare.

As Regina later explained on Facebook, her brother has a special affinity for name tags, and Millie had one pinned to her uniform. “He told the waitress that he liked her name tag and then told her that his name is ‘Captain America,’” Regina recalled.

No one was sure how the waitress would react – would she entertain Dwayne’s clearly outlandish claim, or just ignore it and move on?

It initially appeared Millie would take the latter approach as she politely kept Dwayne – err, Captain America’s – drink full and ensured the siblings were happy with their order. But when it came time for them to pay up and leave, Millie rushed over with a little surprise.

Regina teared up as she watched Millie present her brother with a personalized name tag bearing his self-professed moniker: Captain America. Dwayne’s sister knew this seemingly small exchange meant the world to her brother, whose growing collection of name tags included a “John Wayne” name tag at home.

“Thank you to Millie at IHOP,” she wrote on Facebook. “U made his day!”

Millie later recounted her side of the story to News 4. “When people come in, I want to make them smile,” she said of her role in this heartwarming exchange, which quickly went viral on Facebook. “If they leave happy, it makes me happy.”
