Stop Pre-Washing Your Dishes Before You Put Them In The Dishwasher

This story originally appeared at Goodfullness by Christine.

Some household chores are beyond annoying. When it comes to washing dishes, no one ever “wants” to do this task. It’s a necessary evil and we try our best to be done as soon as possible. Anyone who’s ever had to scrape a plate can relate. Thankfully, the dishwasher was invented to make our lives so much easier.

All you need to do is rinse the plate and put it into the dishwasher, right? There are many that feel pre-rinsing dirty dishes will help the dishwasher because the dishwasher often fails to get the dishes as clean as they need to be.

Did you know that rinsing the dishes before placing them inside the dishwasher might do more harm than good? There are certain steps that we take that are actually contributing to unclean dishes. As it turns out, the dishwasher is a far more intelligent machine than we may realize.

A dishwasher is designed to do all of this work for us. When we scrape the plates clean before placing them inside, we’re actually making the dishwasher’s dob even more difficult. The dishwasher has a sensor that will detect the presence of food particles. This sensor has a dramatic effect on the cleaning process.

If the dishwasher’s sensors believe that the plates are already clean, the cleaning process won’t be as thorough. This is why so many of us are let down by the dishwasher’s performance. Little did we know, we’re actually sabotaging the machine. The dishwasher will also run a much shorter cycle when it believes the dishes are already clean.

While you should still allow a dishwasher to remove all of the food debris that leads to unclean dinnerware, you do not have to work as hard as you once thought. This sounds like a win-win scenario as far as we are concerned.
