SNL’s Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Remake Won the Weekend

A “Saturday Night Live” sketch from last weekend’s new episode offered an extended remixed version of Will Smith’s theme song from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” — and the internets cannot get enough of the Not Ready For Primetime Players’ dark and funny take on this piece of early 90’s Americana.

In the clip, Will (played by SNL Cast Member Chris Redd) raps the familiar theme song — but things take a sharp turn into the darker regions of Bel-Air about three verses in. In the SNL version, the West Philadelphia playground beat-down that sends Will to Bel-Air (“I got into ONE little fight and my mom got scared, she said you’re moving with your Aunt and Uncle in Bel-Air!”) turns into an FBI case requiring witness protection.

Method Man of Wu-Tang Clan fame guest stars as one of the Philly heavies who stomped Will (and then follows him to Bel-Air). Jessica Chastain stars as an FBI Agent apparently looking out for Will’s best interests. But is she?

Watch it go down above.

The episode was hosted by Jessica Chastain and featured musical guest Troye Sivan (who performed his new single “My My My!”).
