In the hustle and bustle of our busy days, it can be easy to hang on to tension and stress and forget to take care of two of our most important parts: our head and our heart. Yoga can be a great practice to help us release those daily tensions and reset into a more balanced, centered attitude. When you get home from a busy day or are looking for a way to wind down before bed, some gentle stretching and breathing can be a great way to calibrate and find focus.
The video below is a part of a series of videos called “Yoga With Adriene”. Instructor Adriene along with her very relaxed sidekick, Benji, talks about the need for “awareness” in our lives and how yoga can help us find that awareness. In this particular video, Adriene targets three areas: breath, head, and heart. Adriene takes viewers through a gentle stretching and meditation exercise designed to release stress through these focused breathing and muscle movements.
Awareness or mindfulness are popular words floating in the health and wellness circles; the idea being that if we can be more aware and mindful of daily stresses, we can balance them with healthy alternatives. We often dismiss self-care as something we don’t have time for or that is just too selfish. When we take care of ourselves, we are better able to take care of others, so it is important to find a balance.
Yoga is a great way to reduce stress, relax tight muscles, and to pause from the chaos of our days for a few minutes of mindfulness. We can practice self-care in a number of different ways and yoga is a great way to take a little time for rejuvenation. This video is a very clear and methodical tutorial on how to reset both the mind and body, with simple stretches and breathing techniques as well as guidance on how to feel more focused and grounded. Enjoy!
