High School Sweethearts Marry At Age 80 After 60 Years Apart

We will always remember our first love that typically was also our high school sweetheart. In Woodbridge, Virginia at the Gar-Field Senior High School back in 1955, a young man by the name of Bob Harvey was head over heels in love with Annette Atkins.

“When she walked through the door, I looked and I said, ‘Oh my gosh, here is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life,’” Harvey recalled to Inside Edition. “I fell totally 100% lifetime soulmate in love with this woman.”

They went to the prom together and even though they were close at the time, they eventually moved on and married other people.

Harvey continued to think about Atkins on occasion. When his wife passed away in 2017, he did a search for her and found out that she was a widow.

He then sent a card and gave her his phone number. They chatted for a while and he traveled 500 miles to visit her in Ohio. According to Atkins, they connected again right away.

“She opened the door and my heart jumped out. I walked over, I handed her some flowers, I took her face in my hands, I said, ‘You’re beautiful. I love you,'” Harvey told Inside Edition.

Even though they had parted ways 63 years prior, the high school sweethearts, Harvey and Atkins finally got married. It took place at a 50s style diner, Nutcracker Family Restaurant in Pataskala, Ohio. They were out on the dance floor again together, dancing to Johnny Mathis.

The couple gave an interview to the Newark Advocate, saying: “We both feel the Lord is instrumental in getting us back together. We pledged to love each other until ‘The Twelfth of Never’.”
