How To Redo The Kitchen Floors With Supplies From The Dollar Store

Have you been wanting to update your kitchen floors, but don’t have thousands of dollars in the budget to make it happen? You’re in good company! Redoing kitchen floors can be tedious and expensive. Between removing the old flooring, purchasing the new flooring, and installing it, the project can take weeks! And if you hire the job out to professionals, it can really put a dent in your wallet. Instead, check out this fun and easy solution using supplies from the dollar store!

Granted, this is probably not a permanent solution for your floors, and it won’t help any underlying issues like mold or cracks or other concerns, but it can help spruce the place up while you’re saving up to redo your floors. This is also a great way to customize any rental space where changes made have to be removed.

For this project, you’ll need contact paper found at the dollar store (or any box store or craft store). In this example, they went with a wood pattern, but you can pick whatever stands out to you, of course! You’ll also need a squeegee to make sure the contact paper sticks to the floor evenly and without bubbles.

Step 1: Clean The Floors

You may be tempted to skip this step, but it’s of the utmost importance to start with a clean slate for this project. Make sure to sweep and thoroughly scrub the floors. Once everything is dry, you can move on to the next step.

Step 2: Laying The Contact Paper Down

This may seem intimidating, but remember that the contact paper can be removed and repositioned. Start by measuring and cutting the contact paper before laying it down in strips. Start with one end, securing it to the floor. Slowly peel back the protective layer as you smooth out the contact paper with the squeegee.

Step 3: Clean It Up

If you have a some places where the contact paper didn’t quite cover, you can clean it up by cutting smaller strips. The nice thing about the wood pattern is that it’s very forgiving for things like this.

This dingy, outdated kitchen floor got a total makeover for about $6! How crazy is that? It’s amazing the difference this little project made for the whole aesthetic.
