Ben & Jerry’s Postpones ‘Free Cone Day’ This Year

Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day is one of the best days of the year. We love to circle this date on our calendar and we spend an inordinate amount of time looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the ice cream giant has been forced to postpone Free Cone Day this year. The coronavirus outbreak continues to worsen, and Ben & Jerry’s was forced to push Free Cone Day back to remain in compliance with the government’s guidelines.

The news was announced on Ben & Jerry’s website:

“Free Cone Day is our favorite day of the year. It’s a special time to thank fans for their love with free Fairtrade ice cream all around the world. This year, some of our scoop shops in communities around the world will be unable to take part in Free Cone Day due to precautions put in place by local Governments around large public gatherings, considering the increasing presence of COVID-19.”

Large gatherings are being banned in a number of locations, as governing bodies look to control the outbreak. This is a wise decision, and we respect it 100 percent. They are standing in solidarity, as they should.

Ben & Jerry’s loves to thank their fans but they must also consider the safety of the general public. Many cities are dealing with this threat currently and they are forced to ban larger gatherings as a result. No one wants to miss out on Free Cone Day, but densely populated areas are at risk and that’s why larger gatherings are a no go.

Free Cone Day is expected to be rescheduled in the not-so-distant future. Once we have more information about the new date, we will be more than happy to pass it along to all of our readers. The event should be rescheduled later this year and Ben & Jerry’s is thanking all of their fans for their patience.

Be sure to pay close attention to the company’s website and social media pages if you want to get out in front of this. Can you believe that Free Cone Day has been offered for over 40 years now? The first Free Cone Day took place all the way back in 1979. In the meantime, Ben & Jerry’s is going to be keeping their scoop shops open.

This will allow fans to get their fix as they wait for Free Cone Day to be rescheduled. The world is now waiting and hoping for good news about the coronavirus outbreak. With any luck, the outbreak will be contained soon enough, and this will allow all of us to get back to business as usual.
