8. Dry, Itchy Skin
We’ve already discussed how kidneys keep us healthy by filtering out toxins, producing red blood cells, and maintaining a balance of minerals and hormones within the body. Dry, itchy skin can indicate that your kidneys are not doing their part in maintaining the balance of nutrients that they need to. If left untreated, this can actually lead to bone disease, so it’s best to get this checked out, especially if you have more than one symptom on this list. The best thing to do for dry skin is to try and stay hydrated, both by putting lotion on your skin and by drinking plenty of water. You may be tempted to take medication to relieve dry skin, but you should consult your doctor first. New medications can be hard on your kidneys, so if that’s what’s causing the issue, the medication will have the opposite effect!
7. Bad Breath & Metallic Taste In Mouth
When your kidneys aren’t functioning properly, there is an excess of waste and toxins in the blood. This causes bad breath, often accompanied by a metallic taste in your mouth. This will impact how your food tastes. The bad breath caused by kidney problems cannot be cured with a breath mint or brushing your teeth – it’s caused by toxins in your blood, not bacteria in your mouth. The metallic taste will often cause a decreased appetite, especially for meat. Not getting proper nutrition is obviously not a healthy way to live!
